Top 10: Reasons Why I Read!

Good morning everyone!
This past week I have been doing a lot of reading, and I have a lot of reading to do this holiday as well! Which is why, since I have been thinking so much about books, I wanted to a book related post. (I know, again... I might even end out a book blogger for all I know xD) Alas, here they are!
1. Boosting my imagination. Don't books just make your imagination run away with you? This is one reason I love them. Besides, I need a creative imagination for my writing as well :3
2. Books lull me to sleep. Well, actually, I read for half an hour before I go to sleep. Much more lulling than staring at a computer screen, and well, then you can read about whatever you read. If you want to ;)

3. Libraries are awesome. I love sitting in a library to work or read, knowing that you're there with a bunch of people who like to read too, or want the peace. You might not be talking to them, but it's awesome to be in that atmosphere. At least for me. Maybe you prefer books but it being louder? Than hit the book store. ^.^

4. Escape. A lot of readers will say this: books take you somewhere else. No matter how boring or dull your life can get, books will always be there to lift you up. And as well as this, when you can't travel or meet new people because of pressing things where you are, books can go do this for you. I love it...

5. You're never going to run out. It's never ending! There is always a new book to pick up, a different genre, new plot twists, new characters, new worlds... It's never ending. It's up to you where you want to go next.

6. Kindles vs. Books. This may not be a reason to love reading exactly, but I wanted to put my little piece of wisdom into this argument xD Books may be better than kindles. There's the sensation of turning pages, the feel, the smell, the printed words - beside the fact that reading books has nothing to do with a screen. But let's admit, you need a kindle too! Lots of free classics and reads, as well as a never ending amount of books. Two bookshelves full and you want more? Then just download 200 books on your kindle instead xD
7. Books can change you. I really mean it. It's just like how people say watch the company you keep, because they will affect you. Books will too. Want to know how? Go read a couple and see how you turn out ;)

8. Reading is all about perspective. Two people can read the same book and take totally different morals from it, find different parts they love and different things the story focuses on. Yes, there is usually a big thing the writer kind of directs you to, but it's also up to you. What do you take out of this book?

9. Books are better than the movies. I have only had one occasion where I think the movie was actually better than the book. I think that would have to be Catching Fire for me, because I didn't find the Hunger Games that spectacular, although they were addicting. In all other cases - the book is often better.
10. And now for a list of other reasons why I find books awesome! (A list in a list... list-ception)

Musical Madness: Halcyon Days (Ellie Goulding)

Good afternoon guys :)
This weeks bloggers do it better topic is supposed to be about collections. BUT I already did collections at some point for the 2014 Blogger challenge, so I decided I would be more specific, and pull out another CD from my music collection and review it! This time I have chose Halcyon Days by Ellie Goulding. This was her CD that made me really start to love her music. I've pulled out favourites of mine and said why ^.^
Even though this song has so few words in the two verses it does have, I love it. The background music is awesome and this already clearly portrays Ellie's unique singing style. I can't really discern a message to the song; its more so the sounds alone that matter.
What I love so much about this song is that when you read it out in lyrics, it's basically poetry ^.^
This was the first Ellie Goulding song I heard, and the first one that drew me in. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I do liek techno music, and this has a little bit of that essence in it. Great song ;)
Definition: Reminiscing in a time of the past that was happy and peaceful. I put the definition there because for a long time I was clueless about it myself xD This song is about a breaking relationship that used to better, used to be happy and great. Knowing the meaning of the title was very useful ;)
Now, you'll only like this if you don't mind high pitch singing. Ellie Goulding sure does a good job of it, and hits every note. But this song really depends on what you do and do not like.
This was absolutely my favourite song from Ellie Goulding, and my absolutely favourite song on this album! I think she sings it beautifully, and the layering and tone in her voice is pitch perfect. Then she also has these amazing lyrics and instruments and ah. Whenever she says 'loved' my heart melts.
A peaceful, still song. I can just picture someone suspende
d there, lying lost in the water. Beautiful
Who doesn't love this song?
I love it... more because it is fun to say goodness gracious than anything else :D But still, this is awesome!
Great to run or cycle to.
A beautiful, sweet, romantic song, which is absolutely perfect. A little too short for my liking...
Olivia's Question: Do you listen to Ellie Goulding? Which is your favourite track?

Seraphina (Book Review)

Hello there everyone. I hope you are having a good weekend c:

I just finished reading a book called ‘Seraphina’ by Rachel Hartman. It was more of a spontaneous thing, because I had never heard of this author before and it was suggested to me by my most trusted librarian. J It’s a fantasy book which is the first in a trilogy.

A kingdom where dragons and humans have lived in peace is now at the brink of war. The brutal murder of the prince that looks like it was committed by a dragon sets the people on edge and the kingdom into chaos. Seraphina, a musician who has learnt to manage both humans and dragons equally well without favor to one or the other, soon finds her life in terrible danger as she is caught up in the middle of the turmoil. Her secret gift may be able to aid her in these difficult times. Can one girl unite two opposing races?

This book took me a while to get into. I think the first few pages were a bit slow… I didn’t quite understand what was happening exactly and the way the book jumps from present day, to flashback, and then to her dreams was kind of unexpected, so I wasn’t sure what was reality or not for a while. After the first 25 pages though, I got into the rhythm of it and sort of understood things better. On top of that, the love interest became clear there, and I mean – who doesn’t love a bit of romance?

I really loved Prince Kigg’s character the most, although Seraphina follows closely behind. Prince Kigg’s is a reflective, observant and good-natured person. He’s someone who is likely to fight for peace, isn’t afraid of what is different and notices everything around him. I’d see him as a wise person, and if he wasn’t a fictional character definitely someone I would love to know ^^

My favourite chapter has to be the last one. It had me on the edge of my seat, squealing in delight! I would rate this novel three out of five. It has the capability to be a four but the beginning brought it down a bit in that standard. Rachel Hartman definitely has a unique style to her writing, and I think that took a while for me to latch on to as well, which made the beginning even harder. But you get used to it, and I definitely want to read the sequel

Recipe to Life: 2014 Blogger Challenge

Good evening everyone!

Today for the 2014 blogger challenge we are supposed to be writing a post about meals. I have been really busy lately and totally forgot about photographing any of my meals whatsoever! But I have decided recipes have something to do with meals (can’t make a meal without one!) So then a recipe to life is sorta related, right? ;) So here is my recipe to MY life, although YOURS might be a little bit different!

1.      Love your family

I know what you’re thinking. Olivia, that is harder than just writing it. Trust me, I know! I argue with my lil sis an awful lot, but ultimately I know I would do anything for her and love her to bits. The same goes with anyone in my family!

2.      Make a friend (or in my case, a couple)

Having best friends are important! They are awesome for hanging with, talking to and always there for you! I have three absolutely best friends here in this country, and one all the way in my home country.

3.      Read

Yeah, I don’t care whether you love reading or hate it, I think everyone should at least try it out once! I live inside books, each one taking me through a different life and leaving me different when I crawl back out in the end. Everyone deserves this awesome experience at least once!

4.      Write (or sing, or dance, or whatever makes you happy) Find an online community for this too!

I love to write And that’s just one of my hobbies! I have others too, but the main thing here is to find a hobby you love and go do it! Who’s gonna stop you? Also, find other people who love it too! I have an online community (Young Writers Society) who are all well, writers, and I don’t think I’ve come across a single un-awesome person on there yet! You like basketball? Join a team! Like dancing? Join a dance crew!

5.      Travel
It’s awesome to see other lands than the ones you are from or living in. Recently I went to Cyprus and that was just great! Make sure you see a little of different lands too, and really dig into that culture ;)

6.      Waste time (whether sleeping, surfing the web or watching movies and shows, I don’t care!)

My fave way to do this is movies and shows. But I think everyone deserves lazy time to kick back and relax. The best thing to do after a chaotic day!

7.      Make a bucketlist and go out there and do it.

I love dreaming of things to do, and then going and actually doing it! The best feeling is crossing things off as well. Here’s my bucket list in motion, I still need to add a few things!

8.      Go to school

Sometimes I hate this, but I feel blessed to have an education, really. And I am going to work harder at it as well. There is so much to learn, so many different ways to think… Sometimes it’s kinda hard to cram it all in there, but I can understand why they do this to us.

9.      Do something you don’t want to do (it means you can work through anything)

As said, when you get through something you really don’t want to do, it means you can really work through anything. So, whether it be chores or getting over a fear, go do it!

10.   Don’t be optimistic or pessimistic, be an opportunist

Last but not least, I know it’s impossible to be happy all the time, and thinking for the best. It’s also really depressing to be negative all the time. I went through my pessimistic period and made it my New Years Resolution to change this, and I am glad I managed to! Be an opportunist! When opportunity sneaks around, go for it!

Hairspray [2007] (Movie Review)

Good morning!
Haispray is a musical that was released in 2007. Starring Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes and many many more, this makes a great movie filled with music and meaning as well.

The movie is about a girl called Tracey and how she dreams to dance on the Corny Collins show on television. She’s also had her eye on Link, the lead male star for ages. When she finally gets her place, Amber who is the leading female on the show faces some competition. Tracey also makes some new friends, and realizes how unfair it is that “negroes” and “whites” can’t dance on the same show. She wants to change that.

Although the movie had a slow beginning, with too many songs after each other for my liking, once it started to reach its climax as well as facing the segregation problems, I was hooked. The characters were funny and interesting, and the acting from all the actors/actresses was exceptionally well done.
Another thing I absolutely love about this film are the costumes! The movie is set in the 60’s so you get lovely fluffy dresses… oh I how I would love to own one of those! And the big hairdo’s which are stiff from all the hairspray. The movie just captured in the setting and time perfectly.

Seeing as it’s a musical, there were plenty of songs! My favourite ones are: Mama welcome to the 60’s, Ladies Choice, Run and Tell that as well as the end song! I need to get the soundtrack of this film…

The film also deals with the issue of integration. It’s a family film so it’s nothing explicit and it doesn’t really show the more hardship sides of this issue. But it does show how so many people were against it, and what the negroes as well as some whites who were for the cause did. There isn’t any violence though, so it’s still suitable for that age range. The message I got at the end of the film is that without love, what else is there? And to always stand up for what you believe is right :)
So, I have rewatched this musical countless times, and if you’ve never seen it and don’t mind musicals … then you best go see this!

City of Heavenly Fire (Book Review)

Hello J (Review is without spoilers)

Today I want to review a book I have waited a very long time to read. It’s called City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare, and if you know me, I have been submersed in this book ever since it arrived on my doorstep. I have waited a very long time to have this ending to the series.

The story follows the Lightwoods as always, and also introduces some new characters, like the Blackthorns and the Cairstairs. At first I wasn’t sure if I liked these new characters being there because this is the final book and it seemed like Clare had just wanted to add a side story. But in the end I was grateful for it, because as always, in the end everything really ties together. As I was saying before, the Lightwoods face the same enemy as they have in the two books prior to this one – Sebastian, who is ready to wreak havoc as he always is, and has new alliances which make him stronger than ever.

I really loved reading this, loved to know how it all ended. I will admit this book didn’t quite make it in comparison to all the other ones. It was very good – don’t get me wrong; I was hooked from the very first page. But it wasn’t as addicting, as terrifying or as satisfying as I wanted it to be. But that’s just me being harsh and comparing.

My favourite part of the novel was the end. Regardless of whether some vital characters are missing or not (hehe, you’ll have to read it to find out), or if the ending was a happy or sad one, I loved seeing it all come together and seeing the final words printed. You can just close the book and breathe, realising that you’ve come on quite the journey since you started book one, wondering if it was going to be as good as everyone says. There are always good and bad sides to ending a series.
I am looking forwards to the book Cassandra Clare is promising to release in 2015, another in the Shadowhunter world but not in the Mortal Instruments series. She has a lot of series I have yet to even start reading, like the Infernal Devices and Bane Chronicles. I am actually longing for her to release a book outside of the Shadowhunter world, just to see whether her writing style changes or what it will be like. I am going to dive into the Infernal Devices next I think, I just need a bit of a break first. I am still trying to heal from knowing a series I love is over. *sniffles*

Olivia’s Question: How do you feel when you get to the end of a series, or a really good book?

If Keyboards Could Talk...

Help! My catastrophe today is that my keyboard won't stop speaking to me! It keeps saying things like:

"You should be doing that boring essay. No I don't like typing it either, but get off Pinterest. Then the mouse gets all the attention."

"Please, stop the story writing! You're making my keys ache and I know that when you write a story, you go on for hours. Yes it is interesting, but I've had enough. That's it, I am going to talk to Writer's Block and ask it to hinder you again!"

"Why are you never on Facebook? Chatting to people is the best and I don't get why you hate it so much... oh here we go again, another blog post."

You get the idea xD I think my keyboard is fed up with how much I use it half the time, and most likely is plotting against me somehow. I'm worried it will spit out some of my secrets though. Things like:

1. I type super fast, and I only use three fingers to do so. One on my left hand, the point one. And the pointy and middle one on the right.

2. I have a mousepad on my laptop but I managed to break it somehow without breaking the whole laptop, so I have a wireless mouse.

3. When I chat with people online I write messages to them sometimes I know I would never really tell them and just delete it. Because it feels so daring knowing I could accidently press enter instead of backspace (yes it has happened a few times.)

4.My productivity is highest between 5am - 11 am and then 11pm to 5-am. Really, I think this means I need to switch around my sleep schedules. If only school would let me.

Okay, I think we've heard quite enough from my keyboard. I best say goodbye before it starts giving away secrets like how often I am on my laptop. Which is practically all the time :P

NOTD - Sunshine!

Hey there everyone!

I decided seeing as summer has just begun (If you take it by months), then it's time for a sunshine post to welcome the sun I hope will appear! It's kind of funny because as I am writing this, it's raining xD But this is the first time all week, and it has been really sunny all the rest of time ;)

I used a sky blue colour that I actually got really cheap from a local shop, so no really designer brand. Which is okay sometimes -- cheap doesn't always promise quality, but every now and again you kind find a really worth it bargain!

I then added designs. I have a nautical trend sailor anchor on my pinkie, and ice cream and the word 'ice' on the next. The middle finger has a sun (Mr Blue Sky!) chilling in a pair of shades. One sky blue finger for when there are clear skies ahead, and lastly, my thumb shows you guys how much I love summer! This was nice and easy to do with nail pens.

Lastly, I would like to share with you my music inspiration. I bring you the awesome ELO:
