The Guardian (Review & Giveaway!)

Hi there!

Title: The Guardian
Author: Lydia Rodriguez-Clement
Publisher: AuthorHouse
Published Date: April 3rd 2014
Rating: 3.5 stars

*Thank you to the author for sending me a copy for review*

Synopsis: THE GUARDIAN is a story about how Sarah's spiritual beliefs are reaffirmed when the existence of Angels and Demons are horrifically revealed. Never had she dreamt that her mundane life would be caught in not only a struggle to stay alive in this clash of worlds, but also in a sadistic plan by the Dark Angels to lure Jacob, her own Guardian, to fall.

Review: The Guardian is a book about an angel who falls in love with a human being. As well as that, the thoughts of want and jealousy could cause Jacob, the angel to fall and become a fallen angel. At the same time the Fallen Angels are stirring again, preparing for a large attack. Jacob and his band of angels prepare to fend off the coming attack, and yet, will Sarah, a human he has fallen for become a distraction?

What I liked about this story was the idea of the angel. I haven’t read many books that include angels and this one had a unique view of them. The abilities that they had made them stronger, older and were interesting to see gradually released to us.

This book promises a clean romance, and that is what we get! I am happy to read books like this, but then I found the romance to be a little bit too clean. Sarah is over twenty years old and yet when there is a guy in her room the door needs to be open, and also when she visits Jacob’s flat unattended she then has to see the priest afterwards. I found this to be a crazy amount of supervision, and I will admit it put me off a bit.

As for the plot, it was very well done! There were some moments where it got a bit slow, but otherwise the action was good and the final fight was brilliant! The book ends on a huge cliffhanger so I really hope Lydia writes the sequel quickly so I can keep reading more of their story!

I have decided to rate this book 3.5 stars and would recommend this book for all those who like angels in their stories, clean romances and a bit of action too.

Author Bio: Lydia Rodriguez-Clement, a native Texan, grew up in the beautiful city of San Antonio where this story takes place, and where she attended a local college and university. 2. Hi Olivia - I have to admit that huge cliffhangers kind of turn me off to reading the book. Guess I'm just spoiled that way. Seems I can never get back to the follow up to the story. Thanks for the awesome review! :)

  4. I haven't heard of this one but I love books about angels so I'm curious now. Even though they tend to disappoint me the most. Anyhow I'm so happy that the romance here was good as was the plot. Great review, Olivia :)

  5. Haha, it sounds like Sarah is super Catholic? Is that the case? (Not that that's a bad thing, but I have heard of my more religious friends doing things like that.) This book sounds interesting, but not quite up my alley. Great review, as always, though! =)

As for your question... my guardian angel would probably tell me to stop eating so much junk food! xDDD!

    1. Yes, I would say that is the case. It's a shame it's not for you, but not every book can be. I think my guardian angel would say something similar :P

  7. The synopsis sounds great! I like the concept of angels and demons in book, but I agree, being overly conventional and much supervision is putting off.
Hm, what would my angel say? I hope he advices me to become an angel because I do a better job than he does! (I apologize if that makes no sense XD) I wouldn't take the advice though. lol

    2. Wow, sounds like a really pure concept of angels and demons explored here which is good. I can't really read religious based books though, because of so many conflicting beliefs. Thanks for the review though!

    3. I can understand about conflicting beliefs in books because sometimes I also feel uncomfortable reading books I morally disagree with.

  8. Brilliant review! I haven't heard of this book or the author before but angel and demon books can be a lot of fun. The clean romance definitely sounds ridiculously too clean for how old they are.

  10. Olivia,
I also appreciate a clean romance but some authors do leave off the romance little too abruptly, but then if he is an angel, she probably feels very guilty. Thanks for the review!

  14. I think my guardian angel would stop me from getting distracted and tell me to stop itching my hair before I itch it all out. My angel would probably lecture me about friends too. Good review, I think you summed the book up quite well. The paragraph with the supervision was a little unclear to me. Was she living with someone who insisted upon giving her constant supervision? If not, what difference does it make whether or not her door is open or why would she need to visit the priest? What supervision would the priest provide? How comes the constant supervision put you off? Apart from that, it was all crystal clear and the plot of the story sounds very interesting. I also have the guardian bookmark and am dying to see what it looks like in the book so I really want to read this book!

    1. Yeah, your guardian angel would definitely tell you that about your hair! The supervision was from her parents who were always around and telling her what to do. I think this one is on your lists as well, or maybe in the future it will be! I hope you like the bookmark <3
