My Birthday!

Hello people~

Why am I doing a Wednesday post instead of my usual Tuseday? Well, because my birthday is today! Fifteen yay. I started off the day not being very excited at all. But the with the help of some awesome online friends, and friends at school and last but not least family, I had an awesome one! We ate out, and I got some presents... Beyoncé's latest CD, two dvds and of course: a phone. It was kind of necessary :P Anyways, some birthday pictures anyone? Just keeping this post short for today ^^

Chaotic Days: How to relax

Hey there everyone! Today I would like to talk about something some of us don't do enough of: relaxing.

I had a very hectic Saturday which is why I didn't get a chance to post yesterday! I woke up early where I was shipped off to a basketball game an hour and a half away from home. We played, and although our junior varsity team won, varsity lost. I managed to get punched in the nose and had a nosebleed -.-

I got back from that and immediately went on a two hour newspaper delivery round. My muscles complained and I could feel bruises forming from being ah- aggressive? - on the court. Anyways, did that and got home. Made dinner for the family and then did house chores. I stood up and ironed till 11pm, did homework until midnight and then finally collapsed in my glorious bed. *breathes* Days like these are absolutely chaotic!

So what should we do about them? We've got to relax somehow, even if it is the next day. I wanted to share with you some ways that I like to relax. Remember, when you're relaxing you shouldn't be thinking of the amount of things you've got to do next or whether you've done whatever you did right. You should be relaxing!

1. Put your feet up and watch something. That movie you've been meaning to see, or the next episode in a telly program. It's all good because your body gets to relax while you feel entertained. This is always my evening choice for relaxation.

2. Try out a new recipe and then eat it. Mmm... food that tastes good? And you get to have the fun of cooking it too. Nothing too difficult though, otherwise it gets a bit crazy in the kitchen.

3. Do something creative. It's been proven that doing something DIY, writing or photography helps release stress and relaxes the mind/body. If you choose the right thing to do for yourself, it's also super fun!

4. Listen to some music and take a nap. This is the best one to do after a tiring day or some extreme sport.

5. Pamper yourself. Girls - give yourself that manicure. Guys - do whatever it is you do to pamper yourself, I don't know :P Make yourself feel good...

6. Curl up with a good book. Well, this is my most chosen option. I let myself read for an hour and get lost in another world.

My Jewellery!

Hi there everyone J
What you see here is a picture of my absolutely favourite necklace. It’s my cross, and maybe I have forgotten whether or not it’s real. But it doesn’t matter, because I’m a Christian and I love it <3>
 
Jewellery is one of my favourite accessories because it can be small, discrete and is so easy to put on and off. You can have one piece of jewellery you always wear that is more personal to you, or is just so comfy it’s part of you. Usually I always have something on my wrist –it feels empty otherwise. And you can also have your own quirks. For example, I never wear any jewellery on my right hand, I always put my bracelets and rings on the other. I don’t know why, but that’s just how I do ;)
Okay, I love the set below. I bought it for my friend as a present. I hope she liked it! Personally, I thought it was nice (duh, that’s why I got it for her)\
 
Also, this watch is one of mine that I love. I used to wear my watch constantly, because I love knowing what the time is. Then I had my bracelet period, and now it’s back to watches. Many women like small watches, but big ones work for women just as well as men. Black is my favourite colour for them, because well, black always rocks. But having a watch can be a super accessory, or more so just to keep track of the time.

Skincare: 2014 Blogger Challenge

Hey there! My next post is part of topic two in the 2014 blogger challenge. And the post is about: Skincare!

Now, I don’t usually do beauty reviews much because to be honest, I’m not into all that make-up and stuff. Although you might get a lot nails around here, you won’t get a lot of this sort of thing. But I can tell you I do know an awful lot about skincare. I’ve had a form of eczema for a while now, and it just won’t go away. What I’ve disliked most about having it is the fact it has the power to make my skin go really dry, really quickly. So, I’ve had to try a lot of products to help solve this, and by far this one is the best.

The product is called Aveeno and it is easily bought anywhere. I got mine from Boots in the UK. I can’t remember the price, but it is an amazing product. It’s non-greasy and non-unge. It has a smell of sweet almond oil, which I don’t particularly like, but it does not linger at all. After two to three minutes the smell is undetectable anyways. It does exactly what it aims to do: moisturizes like oil and absorbs like a cream. Seconds after spreading it your skin feels soft and will stay that way for up to a number of hours. One application is enough to last all through school. It also comes in a soap-like container so it’s practically impossible to spill. I love it!

I think this cream would be good for teenagers, children, actually all ages and all gender! It’s really handy and I can’t see why anyone else wouldn’t be able to use it. It also isn’t just for rashes, but really just for skincare in general. Also good for any skin tone.

The good side was how well it worked and it was quickly effective. What I didn’t like so much was the smell, and when I looked in the shops there was only this flavour. But it worked too well for the smell to bother me much. And it didn’t linger anyways.

Missing Opportunities

Hey there!

So, this seems like one of the only true to the name posts I have so far! Because this isn't so much as a  big catastrophe as a personal one. You see, today in biology we were going to dissect a pigs heart. There are usually two reactions to this. One is ewww, and the other is interesting. Mine was interesting, and it was one thing I was really looking forwards to in school. I had to miss doing it today because I was stuck home ill. Silly illness. And although it is an opportunity I might've enjoyed and missed, and I would like to share with you some good reactions to have to missing opportunities.

What you need to remember is that one opportunity is only one. There may be another. It may be similar, it may be different, it may be better or it may be worse. But missing one doesn't mean another will never show up. You've just got to keep that smile on and wait for the next to come tolling around.

I know that in the future there are going to be so many opportunities that I miss, that I don't see or don't want. I might want them later, but the important thing is not to look back on them with longing, back look at the opportunities that you haven't missed. When you do that you see all the accomplishments you've reached, everything you've done to become who you are today, and you'll be happy. Because there will be more opportunities you've happily taken than those you missed.

How to be Less Car Sick


Hi there! Today I would like to share with you the best tips I’ve gathered from personal experience on how to fend off car sickness. Motion sickness is the correct term, but I’m specifically referring to be in the car. I’m actually writing this while in the car myself, and I don’t expect to escape for another four hours. I’m already breaking one of the rules I am about to share with you, but the inspiration for this post hit, so I had to write it!

The first one is one you’ve probably heard before. Try and sit in the front. The reason for this is the world looks like it’s coming onto you much slower from the window at the front. It really looks like it’s rushing by through the side windows. That usually leads to dizziness, and that isn’t good.

This is the rule I was breaking myself. Try not to read or use screens. This may just be a personal one, but it definitely doesn’t help me feel any better.

Another is to be constantly munching on something. I used to buy myself one pack of sweets, and regularly chew one as much as possible. Not the healthiest option, I know! But I find that having your mouth constantly working does help. I’ve switched to chewing dry cornflakes, dried fruit; anything works as long as it comes in small bite size bits that you can chew.

Thirdly, try not to move about too much. Try not to be twisting in your seat, or bending forwards or turning around. This usually comes naturally to people who are carsick, but I thought it was worth mentioning anyways.

If it’s a long journey, try to sleep. Sleep is like, my magical cure to every illness. Also, having the seatbelt pulled tight around you can also make you feel queasy. Loosen it up a bit. Personally, I loosen it and then hold it back with my arm throughout the whole journey so that it doesn’t tighten up again.

Lastly, if you think you are going to be sick, make sure the driver pulls over! Nothing makes you feel sicker than constantly smelling sick nearby you.

I hope this helps you feel less queasy when sitting in a moving car. I’ve noticed strong smelling cars don’t help. What makes you less ill? Have you got any handy tips to share as well?

Allegiant: Book review

Hello. I have a catastrophe, and I realized there was no greater place to put it except on my blog. It’s called my catastrophe after all, isn’t it?

Anyways, to the point. I recently finished the last book in a trilogy, the very last one. There is no continuum. Do not get me wrong, this book was amazing. Absolutely amazing. Let me give you some backstory as to the whole series.

The book is by a rising author, and the first book (called Divergent) is a New York Times Bestseller. It follows a girl called Tris. In her world there are four factions which pride themselves on different aspects of humanity. The Erudite build themselves on knowledge, the Dauntless on fearlessness, the Candor on honesty and lastly, the Abnegation on selflessness. Those who do not fit into any of those categories are called the factionless. You are born into a faction, but at age the age of sixteen you go to a choosing ceremony where you can switch or remain in the same faction. Then the initiation starts. Fail, and factionless is where you will have to go.
Tris, the main character, is brave, intuitive and caring for those she loves. She is from the Abnegation faction, and she feels as if she has never fit in. When her choosing ceremony comes round, she makes a decision that shocks even herself. What I liked so much about this character was how she was so driven by her emotions, and how she always questioned what was wrong or right. There is no actual definition, and it’s more in what you believe and think. Her toying with the idea is what compelled me to love this character. I do believe my favourite is Four, though I shan’t dive anymore into the characters. (This my fandom. I would just go and on and I wouldn’t stop J.)


This is the type of book (and I’m talking about the whole series here, Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, all of it) that you go in hoping to enjoy, and then when the story spits you out, you realize the book controlled you and not the other way around. You can’t do anything until you’ve satisfied yourself by reading the whole book. I think it being written in the present tense helped with this – it’s something I noticed in the Hunger Games as well [although that’s a review for another say]. Reading the book, there were some small nitpicks I could find by being generally picky like I am. For example, phrases like “I have to do this, don’t I.” were written like that. And in themselves, they are still a question. It bugged me, but then again, typical me.

Okay people, here is the catastrophe. WARNING: MAJOR SPOILER TO WHOLE SERIES AHEAD. If you plan to read them, just stop here. My catastrophe is that at the end of the series, at the end of reading about 1,500 pages in total where I couldn’t help by ship Tobias and Tris with all fangirliness as a fandom should have, Tris dies. She dies. Now, I admire Veronica Roth for being able to kill off one of her main characters. That is not something that is easy to do. And I guess within the first hundred pages, I just knew that at some point Tris would die. I mean, who has as many chances and lives as her? It’s only realistic. But still. I couldn’t believe it even though I expected it to happen myself. No more Tobias and Tris. And so I leave the series troubled. Not disappointed. Not sad, just troubled. I want it to end some other way, and at the same time it was the perfect ending.
I just don’t know what to think. Hmm… I think it’ll take a while before Allegiant settles with me.

2014: Striving to be better


Happy New Years to all my lovely readers! I hope this year will be a good one and one better than the last!

Getting right down to business, I have to admit I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions. I mean, you make them and stick to them for a week, perhaps two. And then you forget and it’s just not very useful at all! I think it’s best to make resolutions and goals throughout the year and really stick to them. I know that at the New Year you can’t help thinking about things you would like to change about yourself though. It’s a fresh start! So today I wanted to share with you three things I’m going to strive to be this coming year.

 Open-minded

 





I want to be open-minded so I can see things from different points of views. I don’t want to be those who are swift to take offense in a discussion or debate, I want to be open to new ideas and absorb new concepts. I don’t want to be so open-minded that I let people walk by and fill my head with all sorts of nonsense. There’s a balance here that I’m hoping to find.

Determined

 


 
I want to be determined through all that I do. If I am going to take a test, I’m going to prepare for it. If I want to publish something by March, I am going to do it. If I believe in something and I want it so badly, with God and determination it can happen!

Positivity


This is definitely the one I struggle with the most. I’m not entirely sure when it happened or when the change occurred, but I’ve come to realize by other people’s comments that I am more of a pessimist these days than an optimist. I tend to think negatively of myself immediately without think positive and thinking I can get there. And I’m tired of not liking myself or pushing myself down so much because I think I don’t make the cut. The only cut you need to make, or I need to make is the one in your head. And if it’s too high, then lower it today. Because when you make small goals and make them, you feel 100% better than when you make a unrealistic goal and never get there.

I hope from now on my posts sound more happy, open-minded, positive and determined. I am also determined to keep this blog up regularly and make it a bit bigger in followers!
