Crafty and Cooking Messes: Apple and Caramel Mini Pies

Hello there,

This is the very first time I am hosting this meme on my blog! For Crafty and Cooking Messes I try (I really do mean try... I am not the best chef or baker) to cook up something nice, and share the recipe with you all once I have finished!

This made five pies for me.

Ingredients:

3 Granny Smith Apples
One Egg
Pre-made pie crust (I have no idea how to make pie crust so I just bought it ready made. But feel free to make your own!)
Lemon Juice (100 ml)
Soft caramels (or hardened fudge)
2 teaspoons of plain flour
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Sugar (100 grams)

Recipe:

1. Peel the apples and then dice them small!

2. Then put the apple, cinnamon, sugar, flour and lemon juice into one bowl and mix it until the apples are all coated in the mix.

3. Cover the baking pan with foil and then place out the bottoms of the pie. Put some of the apple mix in each pie but be careful not too put too much so that the pies are overstuffed!

4. If necessary, cut the soft caramels into smaller pieces. I put about three cubes in each pie, and try to place them at the center (where the slits at the top of the pie will go.)

5. Crack the egg and then brush it along the edges of the pie. It makes it easier for the top to stick to the bottom pie layer. Then put the top on and press in the edges with a fork. Also, make three slits at the top.

6. Brush the entire pie with egg yolk (it makes it turn a nice shade of brown.

7. Put the pies in the oven for about 15 minutes, at 220 degrees C. Bake until they are golden brown.

8. Bon appetite!

Olivia's Question: Are you crazy for apple desserts like me?

  2. I had breakfast a few hours ago and this isn't helping my growling stomach! I wish I was a better cook, or basically a competent one. I just can't cook... nope but maybe I'll ask my mother and sisters to try this one and then I can be the judge and taste it first hahahaha

    1. I am not the best cook either, but I do like to be a bit experimental from time to time. Ahaha that's right, always nicer to just do the eating part :P

    1. I am glad you like the mix up - I was a bit worried it would be breaking too far from reviews.

  5. I love to cook, especially desserts. You should try my homemade banana pudding, because it is downright yummy. None of that whipped cream banana pudding for me. I like mine the way my grandma made hers. This looks yummy and I may have to copy this recipe for the future. Great job!

    1. Ooh, I would love to try it! From the sound of it, it sounds good already. And the best recipes are the ones that are passed down with little personal additions added in to make it perfect!

  16. I haven't had much time to do it lately, but I love to bake. Recipes involving caramel usually seem very difficult, but using fudge is a great idea!

    1. Yes! The fudge makes that step easy seeing as it will melt of its own accord in the oven and tastes just as good! I hope you can find more time for it in the future.

  17. Let me tell you, since I don't care for too much cake, (I like it, just not too much of it) my mom bakes me an apple pie EVERY year for my birthday. It has become a tradition in my household lol. These look sooo freaking good. Do you mind if I smuggle you to America to be my personal chef? I shall pay you in books lol!

    1. DD: I can understand how you feel about cake. I do like it but to much - especially of the creamy kind - is just too much. I would love to come to America! I would bake for you all the timee :D

  18. Aah, I love making apple pies! They're kinda a specialty of mine, now I think about it. AND SO GOOD. They're my favourites! And homemade pastry beats shop bought, in my experience, because it's just another element of the creation being YOURS! I hope you'll try making it yourself, one day, although the ease of shop bought is reasonable! I am so totally adding caramels to my next apple pies, though. That is such an amazing idea.

    1. Yeah, I would have to say the same about apple pie as well. One of my favourites to eat and I am best at making those. I am sure homemade pastry does knock premade ones out of the park, but that is a skill I have yet to perfect ;) Adding caramels just makes it even better ^^
