My Hoarding Catastrophe - New Goals!

Hello there!

My Hoarding Catastrophe is my version of a book haul here on Olivia's Catastrophe where I talk about the latest bookish purchases I have gotten for this month!

To start with I would just like to mention the new goal I have set myself for the coming year of 2016. I decided on this goal because I just finished my 100 book challenge for this year (YAY) and am near the end of my other 2015 reading challenge where I had books to choose for each category. So I started to think of the year ahead and decided that even though my physical TBR has more than 100 books right now, I want to have none left by the end of 2016! Of course, for that to happen I still have a few months before beginning where I can start burning through as many of those books as possible. And it would also mean that I would need to be BUYING LESS. I am so doing this. And fewer ebooks too because next year my main focus is on physical books.

I've been trying to limit the books I have been requesting and buying. This month I have very few physical books and also have been a whole week without requesting. Nonetheless... I still have quite a few from before I made that decision...

Physical Books: This month I bought two new movies which were The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Insurgent which I cannot wait to watch! I also got two bottles of nail polish which were colours I need more of from the NYC collection. I have really wanted a book bag for a while so instead of getting a book I got an Eat Sleep Read Repeat tote bag! I am thinking channeling book money into bookish items instead would be a good idea. And of the four (very few!) physical books I only bought ONE!

Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo
Retaliation - T.L. Coulter (Giveaway win)
Taking Leaps and Finding Ghosts - Janet DeLee (For review)
The Dragon of the Month Club - Iain Reading (For review)

Freebies! There were two books I just couldn't resist! Although I did resist quite a few more. Man, those freebie emails that get sent to my email daily are such a temptation...

Man of Steel - Dave Conifer
Hollywood Games - MZ Kelly

Giveaway Wins! I did win a $20 giftcard from a tour but I have yet to spend that... I won these books but I am not sure from which blog :( I have the first book in the series so I am looking forward to getting to the rest.

What Once Was - Marc Johnson
Reawakening - Marc Johnson

For Review: Hmm... here still lies my weakness...

Lumiere - Jacqueline E. Garlick
Seven Black Diamonds - Melissa Marr
Fairy and Blood - William J. Cribel
This is Where the World Ends - Amy Zhang
The Libby Garrett Intervention - Kelly Oram
The Reluctant Sacrifice - Kerr-Ann Dempster
Ten Thousand Skies Above You - Claudia Gray
The Mirror King - Jodi Meadows
Shade Me - Jennifer Brown
Thicker Than Water - Kelly Fiore
Front Lines - Michael Grant
Symptoms of Being Human - Jeff Garvin
Moonlight Over Paris - Jennifer Robson
Thanks for the Trouble - Tommy Wallach
Blackhearts - Nicoe Castroman
The Imposter Queen - Sarah Fine
Escaping Perfect - Emma Harrison
Unbound - Neal Shusterman
The Anatomical Shape of a Heart (Night Owls) - Jenn Bennett

Here's hoping my new Hoarding Catastrophe is going to be much smaller!

Olivia's Question: What books have you been getting/reading lately?

  6. Great job reaching your 100 books read goal! I too have been trying to request fewer books, but when I read the summary and get excited about it I just have to! ;) BTW I nominated you for The Encouraging Thunder Award! You can see my post

  7. [ Smiles ] Hmm. You took hoarding to an entirely new level; but I think that it is for a good cause.

  8. You have quite a few of my wish list books here. Can't wait to see what you think of Blackhearts. I'm not a hoarder, per say, but I'm known to buy lots of things that my sister calls knick knacks. I tell her they are a necessity. I have so many tote bags, It's ridiculous. Most of them are from years of my favorite books or movies. I love Etsy and Ebay. Enjoy your books!

  10. Does The Libby Garrett Intervention have anything to do with The Avery Shaw Experiment? I have that one (haven't read it yet though) and the cover is very similar!

  14. That tote bag is my motto for the rest of my life. So so so so amazing!! hahaha I spy Shadow & Bone and I hope you enjoy is as much as I did. The rest two of the series didn't take my breath away but the first book was fantastic, such a fast-paced read and lovely world building. I'm waiting to get Six of Crows to see if I like it as well :) and CONGRATS ON READING 100 BOOKS this year; and good luck next year on your challenge as well. I have a book buying problem myself but I can't deal with restrictions so instead of that, I have a new rule: I'm allowed to buy myself one book everytime I finish 3 or 5 (depending on its length) which I think will work just fine with me. My latest purchase was A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf because I have to read it for my Gender & Literature class but I also got Mrs. Dalloway since I wanna read The Hours and it's based on that book.
    Happy Reading Olivia! :)

    1. Ahaha mine too <3 I am looking forward to that one although it is a bit of a shame that the rest didn't really add up to it. I have heard good things about Six of Crows though! I was surprised when I reached my goal because I thought I still had quite a while to go xD I think that is a good idea because eventually that way you will catch up with yourself because you finish more than you buy. I really want to read a Virgina Woolf book after reading All the Bright Places and loving her quotes mentioned in there. I hope you like it!

  15. Oh, wow. I was thinking you'd done a lot better this month, but that is a lot of review copies. Are all of them physical? I don't recognise a lot of the books you have on your list, but The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is actually one I read- it's called Night Owls here. It wasn't such a good read for me, but I hope you have a better experience with it! I'll keep and eye out for your review.
It sounds like a really wonderful idea, to get through all your physical books by the end of next year! I should definitely consider joining you on that endeavour.

    1. I do think I did better than the previous month in general, but those review copies... Kind of ruined things a bit. But no, not all of them are physicals! Ooh yes, join me so I don't feel so alone (and overwhelmed).

  16. I've been avoid the bookstore for the very fear of adding to my ever growing shelf of own-but-have-not-read. =) Though I suppose there could be worst ways to spend my time. I'm currently on an adult fiction binge. =) But, I hope to get back to YA soon.

  17. So many awesome books, can't wait to read your thoughts on them! Shadow and Bone is a favorite of mine :) Review copies are probably my biggest weakness too, I can stop myself from buying books but it's so hard not to hit the request button. I'm so excited for Blackhearts!

I definitely need to request this because it's one of my most anticipated reads of next year. You have quite a bit to review, so here's to hoping you enjoy them all!

  22. I'm hoping that I'll never see the end of my TBR shelf, Olivia, but at the same time, I really get what you mean. I keep adding so many new books it will probably be impossible for me to read them all.
Your new books look great, and I hope you'll enjoy them all.
